Advertising for Singles

Here’s something I know about a good advertising campaign- it is capable of spreading word about your products and services, attract the right target and generate sales. Whether your goal is to encourage new customers to buy an existing product or you’re launching a new service, there are many options to choose from.

Here’s something I also know about being single (and I can tell you categorically because, been there 😭😂😶)- you alone can get yourself into a relationship! It is therefore up to you to push word out about your relationship status. Mind you, there’s a thin line between pushing word out and appearing desperate, so practice caution.

How you go about letting people in on the sheer absence of romance in your life determines who the potential candidates you attract and who you eventually date.

Now people, put steps to leaving singlehood and tactics of advertising together and what do you have? I know, I am a genius 🙌 😎


The most suitable advertising option to rid you of your single status from Facebook (when you are ready) will depend on your target audience, and the most cost-effective way to reach as many of them as possible, as many times as possible. The advertising option chosen should also reflect the right environment for your brand- your personality, preferences, taste, type etc. If you know that your target market reads a particular magazine, you should endeavour to advertise in that publication or if they visit a particular location often, that should be your preferred advert site. Dig? Of course you do, you’re smart🔑;)

Being single is sometimes our fault, although, other times, other foreign forces (I haven’t said witchcraft though but who says it is not one of them :roll:) take the lead. If you want to increase demand for your good or service, or you wanna create awareness for an exciting product 😉 then you’ve gotta understand one thing- advertising is key🔑

(By now you should know that I am not referring to a FMCG )

The following is a list of some advertising tactics that you could use to set yourself apart and seize bae before the year runs out. Remember, you can always be creative in your advertising to get noticed within advertising regulations (a.k.a Not Appearing Desperate).


Contrary to your 21st century thinking, people still read newspapers. Newspaper advertising can promote your brand (you) to a wide target range. I have not asked you to buy a full page advert, lol, c’mon! it is not that serious. Okay, maybe it is! But it is simple- feature in a newspaper as a writer, columnist or a vox pop analyst. This would work if you include a contact info. Disclaimer! Please be secure! Do not disclose your credit card details, BVN, full debit card number or home address. I will not be held liable if you do 😶

You may find that a combination of advertising in your state/metropolitan newspaper and your local paper gives you the best results 😉


Placing your brand in a specialist magazine can help reach your target market quickly and easily. You should do a survey, find out who reads what, ask yourself, is that your target audience? Readers (your potential boos) tend to read magazines at their leisure and keep them for longer, giving your advertisement multiple chances to attract attention. Magazines generally serve consumers (by interest group e.g. men, women) and trade (industry/business type e.g. finance, oil and gas).

If your brand features need to be displayed in colour then glossy advertisements in a magazine can be ideal – although they are generally more expensive than newspaper advertisements. Of course, I haven’t said send your full length picture to a Magazine house. It’s all about creativity! Advertise your business if you’re an entrepreneur/business man or woman and of course, your information will be out there for potential customers to see 👼

It is in spending money that you get money a potential bae.


Advertising on the radio is a great way to reach your target audience. If your target market listens to a particular station or program, then regular advertising can attract potential customers. You kno’ wha’ I mean” That is, if it is a call-in program.

However, you should know that sound has its limitations. Listeners can find it difficult to remember what you have said and so sometimes the impact of radio advertising is lost. The best way to overcome this is to repeat your message regularly with polished accent- which increases your chances significantly. Please and please!!! Do not speak with a fake accent. How long can you keep up? 😑 Simply speak well!

If you cannot afford to play your advertisement regularly (a.k.a regular participation in these programs) you may find that radio advertising does not generate strong results.


Television has an extensive reach and advertisements have the advantage of sight, sound, movement and colour to persuade a customer to ‘buy from you’. They are particularly useful if you need to demonstrate how your ‘product or service’ works.

How then do you advertise your brand here?

Be a guest at a talk show, participate in TV game shows, host TV shows or take part in activities where you can be seen.

It is in being seen that you can be appreciated! Like Beyonce, one of my sisters from another mother would say, if you’ve got it flaunt it.

Outdoor and transit

There are many ways to advertise outside and on-the-go. Like outdoor billboards which can be signs by the road or hoardings at airports, GOING OUTDOORS can get your message across with a bigger impact.

If the same customers visit the same location as you every day as they travel to work, walk the dog, shop for groceries, see a movie etc you are likely to be the first brand they think of when they want to ‘buy a product’ (a.k.a when they want to meet someone new. This is tricky though, you do not want to look like a floozie, so the saying dress like you would like to be addressed can not be overemphasised.

Below the line

Like in advertising, below the line are relatively ads that are unpaid for like shirts, pens, umbrellas, face caps etc In using this means, you simply need these items customised. As always, you need to be creative to achieve positive results. Words like “I make a good partner”, Ask me why my ex misses me, World’s best bae, Been sleeping on my own bed lately, S.I.N.G.L.E if you are, Just dropped my single, it’s titled ME e.t.c have not so hidden meaning if you ask me, so go ahead, customise your outfits to reflect your relationship status.

Yes, yes, yes, the 21st Century Disneyland! Dreams do come true here but people are too busy experimenting with filters and being rude to know its potential! Being on the internet can be a cost-effective way to attract new friends who can become potential bae and ultimately, bae. You can reach a global audience at a low cost.

A well-drafted profile/bio can attract potential partners to ‘buy’ from you. There are a number of ways you can promote your ‘brand’ online or to improve your ‘search engine’ rankings. You don’t have to be an Instagram baddie to get likes

Other ways to advertise your brand online include promoting your uniqueness on social media sites, blogs and search engines, commenting on other websites that your target audience visits and last but not least, REPLYING DMS!!! Nobody has said you should jump on every chat that come your way but neither should you ignore every 😁

When all is said and done, you must know this: no matter the advertising tactic you decide to go for, you need to possess the following: a good attitude, positive mindset, self-belief and the knowledge that being single is not a death sentence.
